Hi All,
I read on Depechemode.com that Daves second solo album is scheduled for release late this year with the title "Hourglass".... It will have a more electric sound apparently.

Re: Dave Gahan New Solo Album
Thu, July 5, 2007 - 5:55 PMYeah I didn't care for it too much, but let's hope that he will do better this time around. It's already stated that it will be more electronic, not that it will take that to be good, but you know what I mean. -

Re: Dave Gahan New Solo Album
Thu, July 5, 2007 - 9:57 PMI do love the electronica. :) -

Re: Dave Gahan New Solo Album
Fri, July 6, 2007 - 6:57 PMYeah seeing what he and his writing team did with the tracks that made it on to PTA. Now if he repeats that idea not necessarily in a DM fashion, but the style and manner that they were brought to Mode, with this new album it may very well take to another level.

Re: Dave Gahan New Solo Album
Sun, July 8, 2007 - 10:01 AMI also love the electronic sound; black celebration and violator are most fans favourites I would guess, but that aside I thought his album was superb....especially if you consider that Dave isn't really the creative force behind DM, with that role generally held by Martin or Alan and even Vince.... I went to see his live show and as ever he brought the house down with his energy and strong vocals..... I can't wait for this new album !!! -

Re: Dave Gahan New Solo Album
Sun, July 8, 2007 - 10:46 AMYeah I wasn't really overly impressed by his first time out as a solo artist, but I hope that changes with this new attempt.
All things considered it wasn't that bad though. I think it was (for me at least) one of those "It will grow on you" type pf albums. Chemode I agree I think that most older fans would agree that one of those two would be their favorites, but mine has always been for some reason or other "A Broken Frame". -
-
Re: Dave Gahan New Solo Album
Mon, July 16, 2007 - 6:59 AMI enjoy a Broken Frame...I also love Violater, as commercial as it may have been...it's still, I think, one of the best albums EVER....:)
Unfortunatly, I find both Martin and Dave's solo careers both lacking...I think they need each other creatively. I mean, every solo album Martin does are all covers...and I just don't think Dave's songs are that great. The nice thing about music, though...is that it is open to everyone's opinion and tast level. and just because I don't necessarily care for something, doesn't make it bad. I just don't care for it... -

Re: Dave Gahan New Solo Album
Tue, July 17, 2007 - 2:00 PMI think it may be a bit harsh to judge Daves solo career as lacking after only one album.... but I have to agree with you about Martin, the whole Recoil thing leaves me cold (doesn't stop me parting with my hard earned cash though, fool that I am). Still give Dave time, i really enjoyed Paper Monsters and am really looking forward to the new album.
Just out of interest did anyone else go to see his live show? Honestly, it was superb !! -

Re: Dave Gahan New Solo Album
Tue, July 17, 2007 - 4:13 PMit was GREAT although he seemed to be overcompensating a bit cause he was SUPER showy and it was almost too much (which is saying a lot). his band were great and I loved the versions of the the DM songs they did. -

Re: Dave Gahan New Solo Album
Tue, July 17, 2007 - 4:45 PMThis should probably should have it's own thread. Not to steal away anyones steam or anything, but it's interesting to see that over the years and especially now how people view the band.
There are people that love DM, but are not fans of the bands solo work. I find this interesting, considering that I am one those that is not a big fan of their solo work, but I try to listen to it and keep the negative thoughts out of it. You know such as "This should be a DM album not a solo".
It's also interesting to see that when past members and their solo act / bands are mentioned we never hear about Vince Clarke and Erasure or any other band that he formed.
Vince Clarke with The Assembly, Yazz, Yazzo, and Erasure.
Alan Wilder Recoil
Martin Gore (solo)
Dave Gahan (solo)
I think that when Vince left he took that overtly "gay" sound with him. Not that I have any issue with gay men I have a few around me that are the greatest people, but Vince accentuated that sound and it was not very pretty for the band. Still it was sad to see him leave after only one album. Then when Alan left I think he took that dark deviant sound with him because his solo work with Recoil is filled with it. Martin has grown mountains over the years as both a writer and composer, I can only hope that we get to see the same with Dave.
Now if we can just get Fletch to start writing or something that would be great.
I just had a great idea a totally acoustic ep from them encompassing their 26 years.
What do you guys think? -

Re: Dave Gahan New Solo Album
Tue, July 17, 2007 - 7:48 PMOoh... an acoustic Depeche Mode album. That sounds great. The acoustic version of Personal Jesus would have to be on it...
The Cure released a version of their Greatest Hits collection with a bonus acoustic CD:

Re: Dave Gahan New Solo Album
Thu, July 19, 2007 - 8:03 PMI like Recoil...one of my dj friends mixes a lot of in his sets. I LOVE Yaz (I love Alison Moyet's voice), and like Erasure...but not the same way I love Depeche Mode...
...I don't HATE the solo work...for me, it just seems to be missing something...and perhaps it's because I expect the Depeche Mode sound, and maybe don't appreciate it for the complete seperate entity that it is...I can admit that...
(ps...the acoustic cure album is one of my fave albums of all time..)

Re: Dave Gahan New Solo Album
Mon, October 29, 2007 - 7:53 AMI brought the album from iTunes four days ago and I must say it is slightly different from the first album. Chemode is right it does have a lot more electronic sound. I was expecting more soul - rock music like the first album, but I guess he is bringing back the 90s.
