DM Love

On Portland's great alternative radio station, Gustav, their #1 radio DJ does the "perfect playlist" every day at 5pm where you can come in the studio with 5 hand-picked songs and have them played and discussed with Gustav. Today was a family celebrating their 15 year anniversary. They met because of a Depeche Mode t-shirt. She was the local college radio DJ. He was the "Depeche Mode' guy. She always seemed to notice him wearing a Mode shirt. One day she put on a Mode shirt of her own in honor of the "Depeche Mode guy" and he came in to her studio and the rest was history. According to Gustav, in the studio their extremely cool 8 year-old girl was wearing a DM t-shirt as they presented their songs. (And not one Mode song in the bunch, can you believe it? I think that Gustav must have been set some kind of limit by the producer on how many DM songs he can play in a given week or something.) All of you other crazy Depeche Mode fans will agree about this being a great story. Depeche Mode brings people together. The rest of you will probably roll your eyes as my wife did just now. But hey, a wife can't be right all of the time!

LOL! I know exactly what you mean Ryder. Yeah I have pretty much given up on the radio, but I do love to catch Area 54 when I get the chance I love those guys.

Oddly enough they played Nothings Impossible when PTA came out and stated that they probably would not have been there had it not been for DM. They then granted them much respect for the work that they have and are doing. So you got to respect that at least.

I'm not sure that I understand what you mean when you say that you "know exactly what I mean." do you know what I mean about wives not being always right or the fact that there is some kind of limit on the radio? I'll address both of those issues.

As far as wives not being right all the time, I'll just say that, while the couch is pretty comfortable, I sleep much better in bed and refuse to incriminate myself further. Her eyebrow is rising menacingly.

As for the other....we're pretty lucky in the Portland area. Gustav has always been a blatant Depeche Mode fan and will constantly surprise with Mode songs from every era. However, and this might be on another discussion, I don't know because I haven't had time to look, but does that odd prejudice still exist? The one about DM fans not wanting Mode songs on the radio? I never understood that one. I always get excited when one comes on and have to shush everyone in the car. It doesn't matter that I have them all the songs at home (half of them in the car), I like hearing them on the radio. Thoughts?

I meant both topics in my first reply.

I have an ex-wife now so obviously she was not always right. I joke about it now, but we've been divorced for almost a year and separated for almost 5 years before that.

I grew up in SoCal so I got lucky with having KROQ down there and they had Richard Blade who was just like Gustav and was fortunate enough to have a personal relationship with them. So needless to say they were played alot. No what I meant by my radio comment was more of a personal issue I'm not a big fan of radio anymore. Never really was anyway, but now that most radio is corp. owned crap I really try not to listen to it. I have gotten lucky with most of the places that i have lived and had at least one station that was electronic friendly.

I've actually gotten some DJ ideas from some of those stations. LOL! Anyway it's just that I don't care much for radio and now that i am doing more original work I find that i have a far more original sound since I have a very small outside influence.
