As we all know, the Touring the Angel gig in Kansas City sucked...I had never been so disapointed in my life...but not to dwell on that...I had purchased a copy of Live in Milan several months ago, but could not bring myself to watch it...until today...

...Oh, man, what a show...I was dancing around my living room like I was actually there...glad I finally watched it, but it made me sad to think what an incredible show I missed...oh well...

Did you watch the other disc? They have the whole making of it and through it they keep showing footage with these like ghosts flying around the scene (the little leaf guy is the "ghost")

If you get a chance, try to see it on a big screen, we had the opportunity here and had a blast, it was awesome to see it that way.

Oh, yes...I watched the whole thing...had to listen to them talk about how important their fans were, how hard they worked...yes, yes...I know all this...I'm a die hard, and am still trying to forgive them for ditching KC fans...A really good friend of mine was working back stage. Dave was hung over, his birthday was the night before. He couldn't finish...we got just over half an hour...IN ANY CASE, like I said..trying to be TO incredibly bitter...The dvd was amazing, I loved it...Dave looked great...heck, they all looked great. :) Music sounded fantastic, and I loved loved LOVED the set design. I've seen them 4 times, and I thought this was by far the best stage they have ever had...

"Dave was hung over, his birthday was the night before. He couldn't finish...we got just over half an hour."

Um, I highly doubt Dave was "hung over", considering he's been sober for quite some time now, and doesn't even participate in after shows for exactly that reason.

Doubt all you want to, girlfriend. It was a pretty known and talked about fact that he had been drinking the night before...It was not an after party, but his birthday celebration...They were in Kansas City for a day or two before the show..He did fall off the wagon, maybe just for a night or two. I also have friends that worked in the hotel they were staying in, and people that were backstage..It was pretty hushed up and covered up...It was not in the media.
I didn't want to believe it, either...but you know, people DO fall off the wagon occassionaly. I don't hate him for it, nor do I think it's something he'll make a habit out of. I don't think he did drugs or anything. Hell, he may have only had a couple of drinks and his system coudln't handle it. But he did...and Kansas Citians suffered for it.

The official reason for cutting the show short was that Dave had laryngitis:

Yes, I KNOW what the "official reason" was...I'm going by what my friends who were backstage told me, and people I knew at the hotel...Depeche Mode fans all, and stunned and upset by it...The Kansas City Star said he had food poisoning...I'm not trying to black ball Dave or anything...I love that guy...people make mistakes

...I would much rather Dave had laryngitis or the stomache flue...

So...what I'm reading from Darla is that she would rather believe gossip than an official report. I was at that show. His voice was falling apart from the second the show started. People that believe gossip, make me ill. People that spread gossip make me want to vomit. Right now I'm ill and vomiting. /sigh...and we wonder why the world is such a cesspool of wretched folks.

Oh, whatever, people! I wasn't trying to denounce Jesus or anything like that. I heard the news from a very good friend of mine that worked back stage.(Not someone to make things up...like I mentioned before, he too, HUGE FAN! He was in charge of the meet and greets..he was RIGHT THERE!) I don't listen to gossip, nor was I trying to spread it. No, I don't necessarily believe the official report. Especially since there were varying stories(laryngitis...stomache flu...exhaustion...)SO SORRY THAT I MAY HAVE OFFENDED SOMEONE! I was simply venting my disapointment on missing what would have been a great show!!!
I was at the show, too, Mick. I was in the front row, center stage...I was extremely pissed off when people started booing, and shouting negative comments. I was in tears, and embarrassed that KC could be so crass...
So here is my official apology to anyone that I may have offended by saying that Dave G could be possibly less than perfect. It was not my intention to cause such a cesspool of wretched discord...

Er... no, Mick. Darla stated that she would rather believe the official report. It just happens that she doesn't.

If you're sick and vomiting, you might want to see a doctor.

              > and we wonder why the world is such a cesspool of wretched folks

              Aren't those Morrissey lyrics?

I don't even know how Dave could get away with drinking...he has a minder that is with him CONSTANTLY. I know, I saw him with my own eyes when I worked at the tour rehearsal at Concord Pavilion. This guy was ALWAYS with Dave, and I believe they even travel separately than the rest of the band for the most part.

Besides, his addiction and now sobriety are SO well known that even people who aren't big Depeche Mode fans know about it....he'd never get away with "getting drunk" without SOMEONE knowing about it.

Sigh...I don't know...forget I said anything...I know about the minder and all that..I've been to DM after parties in Santa Barbara (where I moved from...)...No, Dave was not there...everyone knew why...yaddah yaddah...let's move on...PLEASE...

My whole point...LIVE IN MILAN WAS FANTASTIC...!!!

LOL...Santa Barbara. I should have known you were from there. Lived there for 16 years. That city has gone way down hill on the superficial path since I left. Too funny.

What's actually "too funny" is that both you and Darla used to live in Santa Barbara, and now you both live in Kansas City - but you're trying to make assuptions about her based on locations where she lived... which is also where you've lived. Isn't it ironic? Don't ya think?

By the way, Martin L Gore probably wouldn't appreciate the Santa Barbara comment.

                      Now play nice.

I've met martin a couple times in Santa Barbara at a very nondescript brit pub...there's a lot about Santa Barbara that I love and miss very much. I was born in LA county, but lived in SB the longest...I really like KC, though...the cost of liivng drove me out of SB, nothing else...it's a beautiful city...expensive, but beautiful...

I will forget you said anything. But the way you brought the whole thing up was a bit nonchalant and you should have expected people to get their feathers just a *little* ruffled, no?

Honestly, I thought more people had heard about it... MANY People in Kansas City have...I know a lot of people that have heard the same things I have...I know a lot of promoters, etc...If I had not heard from such reliable people, I would have not believed any of it either...I was a big in defending the sick reason, because TONS of people were talking about, and really slamming DM. Even the alternative radio station out here was talking about how DM 'owed' the fans. Whatever, I thought if Dave was sick, he was sick...my promoter buddy was the one who told me the other stuff. And my friends at Crown Center hotel confirmed the other...so i just figured people knew. I'm not going to argue it and try to make people believe something they don't want to...People are going to believe whatever they want ...But that's why I was nonchalant...because, well...I WAS...I didn't think about ruffling people's feather's...But doesn't anyone think having more than 1 official reason is a bit suspicous? DM site says one thing, Kansas city star says something else...radio says something else. Maybe the DM camp was just really good at keeping this out of the media...I don't know...I didn't know nobody else had heard about it...
As for my being accussed of spreading gossip, well...I had no reason to disbelieve my friend. I cried when he told me, and and I was upset. But since I don't personally know Dave, I couldn't say, "well, he WOULD NEVER relapse! That's impossible!" Sorry, my sister is an addict(drugs/alcohol, you name it...)...she still drinks sometimes...it happens. But maybe there's just a conspiracy out here, and promoters want to black ball DM and paid the promoters to tell lies about them...who knows...I'm still a fan, I love them anyway. I just wish WHATEVER happened to Dave that night hadn't happened...

That's actually very funny in itself. I made NO assumptions about Darla and Santa Barbara AT all. As I recall, I never even mentioned her name in the sentence that could even been construed as an attempt to make an assumption. I only stated a fact about Santa Barbara. I lived there long enough to see what it changed into from what it was. I did think it was funny that we both lived there and now live in KC. It appears, Thomas, that you are the one making assumptions.

Quite right. When you said "I should have known you were from there" before stating that the whole town has become superficial, I assumed that the sentences were somehow related. Sorry 'bout that.

I hope your stomach is feeling better.

As a Santa Barbaran who grew up there, I agree, it has changed, but it is no more superficial then it ever was. If by superficial you mean only going on appearances, well, that describes most big cities in Cali, at least in the Southern half. It's a beautiful place, and it markets that image, and what's wrong with that?

Superficial, no. Hella expensive, yes!!! It's shooting itself in the foot (so to speak) with the housing costs there. Why would any city want to have prices so high that people will actively move out because they can't afford to live there anymore? What's funny is the only housing I hear of going up is for "low income" families. In Southern Cali in general though, that seems to mean houses in the low $300,000s. I moved a little ways north a while ago as I couldn't afford to even rent a ROOM in SB anymore.

A lot of the costs, of course, are because so many celebs live there...raises the market costs considerably...of course, when you can lay claim to having Martin Gore living in your home town...woo hoo!

I had never heard a word about it, and I remember when you posted about winning the front row tickets and how bummed you were when the show was cut short-you never mentioned a word about Dave and drinking. And I was poking around on the DM.Com forums quite a bit during that time, trying to get set lists and whatnot, and not one mention was made about it. Most of us here are not from Kansas City, so we wouldn't really know about any of this otherwise.

I was inactive on tribe for a very long time last spring and summer, and in fact, go through waves of inactivity where I don't really make many posts or even check tribes...In fact it's only been recently that I've "talked" on tribe much at all...all I do is check to see if I have msg's or post pictures...so that is probably why no one saw me on here much right after the KC show...
