...so to speak. So I finally, after many years of fandom, got to go to my first DM concert last night! I went to the Santa Barbara show, and it was awesome. Technical problems not withstanding...about four songs into it, in the middle of Walking In My Shoes, *poof*, the stage power went out. Mikes and everything. Methinks it was probably the cool LED screen they had behind them. So after about ten minutes they came back on, minus the LED screen and continued performing. It was actually really neat withOUT the screen, because at that point it was all about the music. They did get the screen working for their encores.

I was a bit surprised, considering this is an album tour, that they only did about four songs from SOTU, then the rest of the show was older stuff. Not that I minded listening to the classics, far from it, it was one of the best shows I ever saw.

Also, I was amazed when Martin came on and sang...he sounds, like, EXACTLY the same live as he does on a studio recording. What a voice he has. I also loved the silver sequined suit (say THAT five times fast) he was wearing.

DM to play free show in Hollywood 4/23

From DepecheMode.com

Depeche Mode will shut down Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles for an exclusive outdoor nighttime performance to be broadcast live on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday, April 23 (12:05-1:05 a.m. ET/PT). This will be Depeche Mode's first late-night talk show performance since announcing their upcoming "Tour Of The Universe," which will include material from their highly anticipated twelfth studio album Sounds Of the Universe (Mute/Capitol/Virgin) to be released on April 21st. The band's special performance will feature a multi-song set for the fans on the boulevard including two songs to be broadcast on Jimmy Kimmel Live! one of which will be their new single, Wrong. This unique performance will take place on a custom-built stage on the corner of Hollywood Blvd. and Vine St. at the doorstep of the new W Hollywood Residences.
To win special KROQ VIP tickets, visit the KROQ website.
To get free tickets, visit the 1iota web site.

---------------------------

I went to 1iota.com yesterday and got 2 free tickets. The show is open to the general public as well, but if you get your tickets from 1iota then you have a chance to be in a pent off area right in front of the stage. The reason I say chance is because 1iota is a f*cked up company. They staff studio audiences, but are known for overbooking and than picking and choosing the "pretty people" to come in with no regard to how long you were there.

On Friday, August 1st, Strangelove pays homage to our patron saints, DEPECHE MODE. Tomas Diablo and very special guest MELTING GIRL (Death Guild, 1984) spin the best of Depeche Mode and like-minded Dark Electro, Industrial, New Wave, and Goth.

Expect to hear artists like Depeche Mode, Depeche Mode, and yet more Depeche Mode, as well as solo work from Dave Gahan and Martin L. Gore, music from former bandmates Vince Clarke and Alan Wilder, and DM-inspired artists like De/Vision, Covenant, Camouflage, Mesh, and Seabound.

Strangelove is every first Friday at the CAT CLUB (Folsom and 8th), with different themes and guests every month. There's plenty of room to dance around and if you keep dancing, we keep the party going until 3AM! The DJs play music in the back room, and it's piped through to the front room at a lower volume, giving you the chance to chat at the bar without losing your voice.

Depeche Mode inspiration and tribute to "photographic"

Hey there,
I thought you might like to hear and see two videos from a fellow member and fan of Depeche Mode. I’ve been a fan for almost as long as they have been around and Depeche has been my number one inspiration for my own musical work.

1st is a cover of “photographic” (band name… ejector)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfVLtQAaN78

2nd is a depeche mashup, it’s “Everything Counts” mixed with a track that I wrote this year called “deep”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcwVNt-mNbk

thanks you guys,
hope you enjoy it.
rub (ricky)

DM Love

On Portland's great alternative radio station, Gustav, their #1 radio DJ does the "perfect playlist" every day at 5pm where you can come in the studio with 5 hand-picked songs and have them played and discussed with Gustav. Today was a family celebrating their 15 year anniversary. They met because of a Depeche Mode t-shirt. She was the local college radio DJ. He was the "Depeche Mode' guy. She always seemed to notice him wearing a Mode shirt. One day she put on a Mode shirt of her own in honor of the "Depeche Mode guy" and he came in to her studio and the rest was history. According to Gustav, in the studio their extremely cool 8 year-old girl was wearing a DM t-shirt as they presented their songs. (And not one Mode song in the bunch, can you believe it? I think that Gustav must have been set some kind of limit by the producer on how many DM songs he can play in a given week or something.) All of you other crazy Depeche Mode fans will agree about this being a great story. Depeche Mode brings people together. The rest of you will probably roll your eyes as my wife did just now. But hey, a wife can't be right all of the time!

As we all know, the Touring the Angel gig in Kansas City sucked...I had never been so disapointed in my life...but not to dwell on that...I had purchased a copy of Live in Milan several months ago, but could not bring myself to watch it...until today...

...Oh, man, what a show...I was dancing around my living room like I was actually there...glad I finally watched it, but it made me sad to think what an incredible show I missed...oh well...

17 years ago today I ditched school and went to LA to wait in line (for approximately 10 or 11 hours!!!!) at the Wherehouse, hoping to meet Depeche Mode. Well we all know how THAT turned out! Regardless, it was a fun day-well, until the SWAT team showed up!!!

to completing the entire catalogue of DM vinyl. One more down and still 5 to go. LOL!

I snatched a copy of "Goodnight Lovers" on red vinyl which is great becuase they have becom rather hard to find on either red or black vinyl.

I am still looking for copies of these:

101
Ultra
Freelove
Playing the Angel
Martyr

I suppose I could add the Remixes 81' - 04' to that list, but I own most of them minus a very small percent of them. So far the hardest one to find is Ultra for some bizarre reason. If any of you run across copoies of these and would be willing to aquire them for me I would be very willing to compensate for them and all other monetary responsibilities.

I got the remixes from the "Best of. . ." on vinyl along with the 7"s of Martyr and Precious, but I won't get them for probably a couple more weeks. They don't get released until the 11th of Dec. :(

Here's the change: You can post commercial events in the topics as long as they're directly related to Depeche Mode, such as a tribute band, an "all-DM" night or similar. Use your best judgement.

Hi folks,

It's been a crazy few months. I up and quit my job in early August, did a short stint as a contractor at Cisco and now I'm working for a fast growing, fast-paced company in Emeryville. I've been here for 2 months. There's not much time to screw around. I've actually got a few minutes to web surf and stuff between meetings, projects and lunch. Mmmmm...lunch.

Anyhow, it appears that everyone's been "good," except for some pesky commercial ads in the discussion threads! Pffft.

It has been soo quiet in here lately.

I figured with a new single coming out that folks would at least be talkign about that. I know that many of us are not overly excited about the "Best of. . ." album, but hey at least they are giving us some new mixes of some of those older tracks.

I'm really dying to hear what was done with "People Are People". That I can totally see being done in a D&B or a Tech House format.

As far as the rest of them go. . .

Never Let Me Down Again; Acid all the way.
Everything Counts; definately a deep Detroit Techno sound.
Personal Jesus; honestly I have no idea that one has always eluded me as to what should have been done with it.

So what do you say? Any comments one way or another?

MOD NOTE 6/19/06: NEW/MODIFIED RULES

I made some minor tweaks to the rules. They are marked inbetween (new) "brackets."

_The Rules_:

No flaming or personal attacks on DM tribe members in tribe threads.

No talking about people who are tribe.net members but not members of the DM tribe.

Respect each others opinions. You may, of course, respectfully disagree.

Off topic posting, within limits, is acceptable. Please put "Off Topic" in the subject heading.

**No advertising commercial ventures such as club promotions (new) or selling CDs for your band (new) in threads. Please make your advertisement a listing/event. ALL OFFENDING THREADS WILL BE REMOVED BY THE MODERATOR AND THE PERSON WILL AT LEAST RECEIVE A WARNING. (new) IF YOU FIND THAT A POST HAS BEEN DELETED AND YOU HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED BY THE MODERATOR, YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO CONTACT THE MODERATOR AND ASK WHY YOU WERE NOT NOTIFIED THAT THE POST WAS REMOVED AND ASK FOR AN EXPLANATION.(new)**

(new) Posting of non-commercial links to sites such as DM-related web sites, general music web sites, a tribe member's art or the art of somebody who is not in the DM tribe is acceptable. Use your judgement on the appropriateness of the link you post.(new)

_What your mod can do_:

Change/modify the rules to meet the needs of the tribe. She will title the post “MOD NOTE (DATE): NEW/MODIFIED RULES.” She can only enforce said new/modified rules upon infractions that have occurred _after_ she has posted them.

Intervene in threads containing personal attacks or flaming. If she says to stop posting on this thread, you must stop posting.

Terminate threads that have gotten out of control.

Remove offensive posts that either violate the (new) tribe(new) rules or tribe's TOU policy.

Remove members who repeatedly break these rules, tribe.net's TOU or otherwise cause continuous disharmony on this tribe.

_What you mod cannot do_:

Stop members from "taking" about each other on other web sites, such as blogs. This is not to say that I will ignore harassment. I WILL NOT tolerate harassment of one of my tribe members. I will assist you in any way if you are feeling harassed by a member of the Depeche Mode tribe.

I really like Johnny Cash's cover of "Personal Jesus". The fact that those guys like Johnny Cash and that he covers one of their tunes must make them feel all warm and validated inside!

TORI AMOS' cover of "Enjoy The Silence" is pretty interesting, too...

I know that this is a tough question, but figured it would be interesting to see which cd everyone would pick. I pondered this question for a little while, and decided that I would have to have Black Celebration with me.

wow, it was amazing! we were treated to so many classic favorites.

did anyone else notice the huge shift in energy from behind the wheel & on? they seemed to be having so much fun after that point....

the lighting, stage show and video effects where wholly impressive. i really liked the cartoon homages to the original videos, they were fun.

despite some technical difficulties.... like the vocals during Stripped, where the video was entirely of Martin's face and his mike didn't start working until the song was almost over. luckily dave stepped in and the band handled it with the grace of superstars and were wholly unflappable.

what was with the b&w video effect that was making them all look terrible at the start of the set? bad bad video people!

she wants revenge were great, i really enjoyed the set - although couldn't see much since the video monitors weren't on....
whoever put the scissor sisters on that bill should be... i can't think of a fate horrible enough! they were awful.

Why doesn't Depeche Mode reschedule cancelled shows?

I suspect that it's mostly financial, especially with the smaller turnouts. 5500-8000 tickets sold at $55-$125 each = an average pull of $390,000, rounding up to the 10 thousands. That probably covers the cost of the show itself...possibly. They make their real money in SWAG sales. Each T-shirt sells for about, what, $35-$40 each? The cost is probably $5/each, if that. So, that's a healthy $30-$35 profit per t-shirt sale. Those $20 program sales probably get them another, oh, $15 in profit. Let's assume that every person buys an average of $60 in SWAG, which gives DM and Co. a healthy $50 in profit per head. Multiply that times 6750 fans = about $340,000. That's where the juice is for these smaller shows...and for the larger shows, I'm sure. I'll bet they make boatloads of money in LA.

So, what happens when you cancel a show that seats, say, less than 10,000? You instantly lose funding of your overhead through ticket sales and have to make up the profit with SWAG sales IF you play a make-up night "for free." You will probably break even, if you're lucky.

I am not implying that DM is a cold, calculating profit machine with no concern for their fans but they do have obligations to their financial backers to be a money maker. If they cancel a smaller show, they may not have the pull to rechedule due to financial pressures from their backers. That's a sad reality.

Just found this on the DM message boards:

http://keithjenner.com/depeche/

It took me about an hour to download so amuse yourself while you wait. It's totally amateur and shaky (and drunk!) but at least you can see MArtin sing Leave in Silence, ? of Lust, and Somebody. and you also get to see the tour manager come out and Fletch come out and make their announcements (though it's a bit hard to hear). I dunno, I know I wasn't THERE but I'm not getting a real sense of bad juju or Fletch hanging his head "in shame". People were chanting for Martin and he seemed to be into singing his songs...

KC show canceled half-way through....

Unfortunatly, and rather disapointingly, Dave bailed 4 songs in, and Fletch had to tell us the bad news that the show was canceled. Martin stepped up and sang about four other songs, but he was not pleased, and Fletch looked rather pissed off. They said that Dave was sick, but I have a friend in a band that said he noticed Dave was pointing at the monitors and then his ears, and thinks he actually had a primadonna tizzy fit....

It was really disapointing. My seats were AMAZING...I was only about 10 feet away from them. The pics I got were good ones. I'll upload them later. My friend is going to put them on a disc along with hers.... (I posted this is the other thread, "I won front row tix!")

I was so sad...I HOPE Dave was sick(rather than being a diva)...But the whole thing rather sucked...

The opening act was She Wants Revenge, and they rocked the house...we were hoping maybe they'd come back on stage and play a bit more, but that didn't happen....

DEPECHE MODE FORCED TO CANCEL TONIGHT'S CHICAGO SHOW AND ENDED LAST NIGHT'S KANSAS CITY SHOW EARLIER THAN EXPECTED DUE TO SINGER DAVE GAHAN'S LARYNGITIS

BAND OFFER SINCERE APOLOGIES TO FANS AND THANK THEM FOR THEIR LONGTIME SUPPORT

DEPECHE MODE has to unfortunately cancel tonight's (Thursday, May 11) performance at the Allstate Arena in Chicago as lead singer DAVE GAHAN has laryngitis. After seeing a doctor in Chicago this morning, he was advised to cancel the show and rest his voice. At this time, a make-up show is not planned due to the band's scheduling but management is looking into it. Tickets for Chicago will be refunded at point of purchase.

Meanwhile, the group had to regrettably end their show last night (May 10) at the Starlight Amphitheatre in Kansas City, MO earlier than expected. Coming off three concerts in Mexico, GAHAN's voice was challenged throughout the concert by the unusually cold temperatures at the venue.

An hour into the concert - after the segment where MARTIN GORE sings a few songs - GAHAN was unable to return as he lost his voice, leaving GORE to continue on lead vocals for another 25 minutes or so.

DEPECHE MODE offer their sincerest apologies to their fans in Kansas City and Chicago and want to thank them for their longtime and dedicated support.

DEPECHE MODE's next scheduled show will take place Saturday, May 13 at Jones Beach Amphitheatre in Wantagh, NY.

I've seen Depeche Mode 3 other times, and my seats have always sucked....I actually BOUGHT a ticket for this show ($80 bucks for a mediocre seat), but was so excited to win, I just gave my ticket medicocre ticket away...The show is tomorrow night....

I cannot wait!

DEPECHE MODE FANS WANTED!
FOR OFFICIAL DOCUMENTARY ABOUT THE BAND & THEIR
tracing the history of Depeche Mode as told by the
followers of the band.

We would like to make contact with fans and admirers
please forward this message to other admirers of the
band.

Please get in touch and write a brief summary of
yourself and the country you live and why you are a
devotee of the group. You may wish to use some of
these questions as a way to tell your story.

How did you first hear about Depeche Mode? How old
were you? What does the band mean to you? Did you
discover the music at a significant time in your life?
How has their music affected you personally?

Have you made friends with people through your love of
the band, are you involved in meetings or social
activities based around the group?

What aspect of the band appeals to you most of all?
The music, the image, the lyrics? Have the band
influenced your own style and image, in what way?

Can you describe why you would like to meet the band?
What aspects of yourself do you think they would like?

Have you made artwork about the band? Do you have a
collection of memorabilia?

How does their music make an impact on your daily /
weekly lifestyle?

We would like to hear from as many international
devotees as possible. The aim is to tell the story of
the bands followers and their support for the group.

This is an official documentary made in collaboration
with Daniel Miller at Mute Records and we would be
happy to provide a letter of authentication for the
project.

some of them came out too grainy, or the flash wasn't going off for some reason, but at least I got a few...I especially like the last one, with their poses! I was trying desperately to get a photo of Martin and Dave together, and the security guard was shooing me away just as I took this!

Depeche Mode's recent trend in REMIXES

uh... okay... can we talk about Depeche Mode now? I'd like to bring up the topic of remixes, and the stuff that's coming out now.

Let's face it - Depeche Mode has had some amazing remixes. Everyone's got their favorites, I'm sure. The Beatmasters mix of 'Route 66'. The Highland mix of 'Stripped'. Portishead's take on 'In Your Room'. The Slow Slide mix of 'My Joy'. The Spiritual Guidance mix of 'Rush' from Jack Dangers of Meat Beat Manifesto. Yessir, there's been some amazing mixes.

But there's been mostly super housey mixes from Depeche Mode of late. Sasha, Calderone, Tiga... the Jacques lu Cont mix was obviously intended for a eurotrash uber-disko. Heck - they all seem custom-made for house clubs.

Why the new Goldfrapp remix? I mean, the Goldfrapp mix of 'Halo' starts off beautifully... possibly better than the original (which is saying a lot as that's my favorite DM track, methinks). But as soon Goldfrapp inserted her voice and raspy breaths, it felt wrong. Pleasant, but wrong. From the sample I heard at depechemode.com, it sounds like 'A Pain that I'm Used To' is a similar approach. I have a thing for remixes, and I really like Goldfrapp, but sometimes two great tastes don't taste great together.

Since the recent mixes seem targeted to a certain market, is DM or the label targeting downtempo rooms and make-out pads... or did they just really like the Halo mix and wanted to hear something else?

Moving forward, I think they need to broaden their horizons regarding remixes. Give Jack Dangers another go. If Trent Reznor can do a Peter Gabriel remix (Growing Up), why not have him layer some angry beats on some new DM? Can Peaches remix? I know Massive Attack can. Could you imagine a new remix from someone with an edge? A Haujobb remix? A KFMDM remix? I'd even accept VNV Nation.

If they're only considering "hot" current remix artists, how about DFA? Anything to get us away from house. Please.

MAYBE I DID PROJECT MYSELF 24 HOURS INTO THE FUTURE!
Because in my VERY "lucid/hallucinogenic" (103.8 fever-induced) dream, where it DID seem VERY vivid, like I WAS at the Shoreline YESTERDAY~
DM actually DID end the set with the song (in my dream) that Dina heard at the dinner rehearsal!!!

AND I sent Dina a msg and asked her what the song WAS that DM will be ending with, AND I also told Dina WHAT song DM ended the show with in MY DREAM & she sent me a msg back & I WAS CORRECT!!!
WEIRD HUH??
SO MAYBE I WAS THERE! in some WEIRD TIME-WARP!
LOL!
Because how ELSE would I have gotten the song right!!??
AND TRUST ME, THE SONG DM ENDS WITH IS SOOO MUCH BETTER THAN "JUST CAN'T GET ENOUGH", at least IMO!!!

Tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG so to make a long story short, tonight I got to work at the Depeche Mode tour rehearsal at Concord Pavilion!!!!! I helped out in catering, and I really couldn't believe it when I was standing there washing dishes and there was Dave and his assistant eating their dinner and watching Sumo wrestling on ESPN. SO SURREAL! Later on Martin and Fletch and the rest of the crew and band came down and ate their dinner....I was standing next to the dirty dish bucket talking to someone when Martin walked up and put his dinner plate in! I almost shat myself ( I considered for a SECOND taking it as a souvenir! but my senses came back to me-haha)! I didn't get to watch the whole rehearsal (I guess they didn't really want people standing around watching) but I did hear the whole thing....towards the end of the rehearsal they played a song which I won't name (if you want to know you can message me-but it's an old song and it's replacing Just Can't Get Enough-thank GOD!) and I ran upstairs and inside to watch cause at that point it was dark and some other people were watching too. it was SO EXCITING! It was almost like having my own private DM show! When they were finished I went back downstairs and continued working, and Dave and his minder came in to eat their Chinese takeout!!!!! I got up the nerve and said to Dave "OMG I just want to tell you how happy I am that you played (blank)!!!! I was so excited!!" (and let me add that he looks really really great up close!) and he goes "Right on! That's great! COOL! I was worried that no one would know what the song was!" and I go, "Are you kidding me???" and then I asked if they're going to play it at Shoreline and he said yes. woo! the song ROCKS! he said they haven't played it in at LEAST 20 years, maybe more.....:)

I had my camera but the only pics I took were a couple shots of their equipment being loaded out. Brat the webmaster was there taking pics. ummm....oh I took their Tour rider and will scan the first page of it tomorrow and post it in the pics section!!

Okay sorry for the rambling but I just had to share and I'm so tired and need to go to bed but I'm so AMPED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See ya at Shoreline! :)

Sorry....I'm so excited I can't stand it!! :) It just blurted out.

The great thing is the week before my company sends all the women in the office on a girl's trip to the beach. They pay for everything. So that week I'll have a 3 day week and then 4 days at the beach. Then the week of Shoreline (the next week) I have only a 4 day week too because we are heading down to SF on Wednesday afternoon. YAY!!! :)

_The Rules_:

No flaming or personal attacks on DM tribe members in tribe threads.

No talking about people who are tribe.net members but not members of the DM tribe.

Respect each others opinions. You may, of course, respectfully disagree.

Off topic posting, within limits, is acceptable.

**No advertising (new)commercial ventures such as club promotions(new) in threads. Please make your advertisement a listing/event. (new)ALL OFFENDING THREADS WILL BE REMOVED BY THE MODERATOR AND THE PERSON WILL AT LEAST RECEIVE A WARNING.**

Off topic posting is cool within reason. Please put "Off Topic" in the subject heading.

Remove offensive posts that either violate the rules or tribe's TOU policy.

Remove members who repeatedly break these rules, tribe.net's TOU or otherwise cause continuous disharmony on this tribe.

_What you mod cannot do_:

(new)Stop members from "taking" about each other on other web sites, such as blogs. This is not to say that I will ignore harassment. I WILL NOT tolerate harassment of one of my tribe members. I will assist you in any way if you are feeling harassed by a member of the Depeche Mode tribe (new).

I also like the Basteroid mix of Better Days, that definately should have been an album track.

It's BEEN soooooo quiet around here! well I just thought I'd post that today I ordered the Suffer Well Limited 12" and 7" inch singles from Mute......I got sucked in-what can I say! it's also not being released in the US, so I figured I might as well order from them, plus I wanted one of those limited picture disks.

Also, check this out-this was on the DM e-mail today...freakin hilarious!!!

"ROBERT SMITH vs ANTON CORBIJN!?!
http://www.depechemode.com/news/index.html#032906_anton
We are getting preliminary reports that Robert Smith (lead singer of
The Cure) is looking to stop further production of the album "Playing The
Angel". It is said, through sources, that Robert has a concern that the
"Mister Feathers" character that Anton Corbijn created for the "Playing
The Angel" cover bears more than a passing resemblance to the cover for
The Cure's "Boys Don't Cry" single.

We will provide further information on the impending injunction as soon
as it is available."

WHAT a drama queen!!!!

The Third 12" installment of Suffer Well will be a two track 12" of the Darkest Star released only on a vinyl format. This was originally a club promo that went so well that they decided to release it as a commercial release. It will get released a little later this month, not too sure of the exact date right now. I will get posted up asap unless someone else has that date at the top of their head and posts it up first.

Does DM post set lists anywhere? Or does anyone keep a track of them. I'm also a HUGE Dave Matthews Band fan and their website has live set lists. That way you know what they are playing every night....or that tour. They have tour set list info that goes back YEARS. I know they are a little different in that every single night is different and different songs are played. But I was curious if anyone knows what DM is playing this tour.

Thanks!

Right click (or ctrl-click on Mac) and save, it weighs in at 79:38 and should fit nicely on a CD.

Depeche Mode B-Side's CD set!!??

I am actually VERY surprised that DM has yet to put out a cd set of entirely JUST B-sides!

For example, another favorite group of mine, Pet Shop Boys, came out with "Alternative" in 1995. This 2XCD set contained 30 tracks( each cd was at LEAST 75+ min. long) of ONLY B-SIDES!!
NO remixes, no remixes OF b-sides. JUST B-SIDES!!

Now, DM has at LEAST 40 B-sides( as of this point), which would EASILY be 3 FULL CD's!!

So, If they decided to release JUST a B-Sides set, possibally entitled "DM's B-SIDE'S -1981-2006"( after they first released the other 2 singles off of PTA, of course)....
...they would make a KILLING!!!

Because yes, while there ARE the DIE-HARD DM fans who WILL still buy ALL of DM's singles( myself included) for the single version's, remixes, as WELL as the b-side REMIXES TOO-
there are a LOT of people who JUST want the b-sides.
And I KNOW that even the DIE-HARD FANS will STILL buy a "B-sides collection", even if they DO already own ALL the singles( I know that I still would)!

any thought's???
anyone else wish DM did the same??

touring the angel (official) DVD was filmed last week in milan, italy

read this in a couple of other depeche mode boards recently, thought i'd share:

DEPECHE MODE NEWS:

+ Depeche Mode Milan DVD
[Source: Reuters/Billboard, by Jonathan Cohen, February 22nd, 2006]

Depeche Mode's two shows the weekend of February 18 at Milan's Filaforum were recorded for a live DVD that is expected to be released in September.

"We're quite excited, because the audience went absolutely bananas," drummer Andrew Fletcher told Billboard.com. "We did Paris (for the last DVD), and we thought we'd do Milan since we work there a lot, and it worked out really well."

The DVD was directed by Blue Leach, who has been traveling with the band since the start of the world tour in support of last year's "Playing the Angel" (Reprise). "He's been on the road with us so he seemed like the obvious choice," Fletcher said. "He's been doing loads of offstage stuff throughout the whole tour, so there will be all that too."

Depeche Mode is enjoying its most successful tour ever in Europe, which plays Paris Tuesday night (February 21) and runs through April 3 in London. A second North American leg kicks off April 27 outside San Francisco and includes a previously announced April 29 headlining appearance at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, California.

"We know how popular it is in the States, and I think the bill looks very interesting," Fletcher said of Coachella. "California is probably our biggest market in the States, so we're looking forward to that."

The subsequent tour is expected to include about 20 dates in North America, including a visit to Mexico. From there, Depeche Mode has more international shows on tap through August 3 in Tel Aviv, Israel. "We're absolutely huge in Israel, and we've never made it over there," Fletcher said. "When we just played in Prague, the Israeli fan club chartered a massive plane with 300-400 people to come over. That will be a really good place to finish."

Afterward, the band is considering shows in South America and Australia, but as Fletcher notes, "We have no plans further than that, apart from having a really good holiday!"

"Playing the Angel" has reinvigorated Depeche Mode's diehard fan base, having spawned the No. 1 Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart hit "Precious" as well as "A Pain That I'm Used To," which peaked at No. 6 on that tally. A new single, "Suffer Well," has just begun to make an impact on radio.

"We realize this album is more tuned in to playing live, more so than 'Exciter' or 'Ultra,"' Fletcher said. "People who have seen us say the new songs don't sound misplaced in the set list." Still, for the summer shows, Depeche Mode will "probably drop a couple of those and add in a couple of old hits."

And how are relations between Fletcher, Martin Gore and David Gahan at this stage of the oft-feuding band's career? "I think they have been good throughout the making of the album and it has sort of continued onwards," Fletcher said. "It's a very good time to be in Depeche Mode at the moment."

Beth, I just wanted to say - (and I am sure, that MOST people here would agree with me too)
- that you have been doing a super job thus far!
PLEASE KEEP UP THE SUPER- SWEET- STELLAR-SITUATION!
;-)

- Everyone here notice - that there has been a LOT less "drama-filled NON-DM posts"(by people, or a PERSON that is no longer here, who shall remain nameless) since Beth became the moderator?
In FACT, I DONT think that there has been ANY MORE DM DRAMA!
;-)

We are back to the nice, normal, & fun-filled world of DEPECHE MODE!
NOTHING MORE(thank God)!
So, let's keep up the SMOOTH flow of recent DM posts, since Beth took over as the "DM MOM"!

KUDOS BETH!!
keep it up!
;-)

MOD NOTE: memoryboy has been removed and tribe is now moderated.

I have removed memorboy for violating the rules - specifically continuously causing disharmony on the tribe.

I have also moved this tribe to moderated status, which allows me to review the request for membership of any person asking to join.

If anyone has any questions, comments of complaints about removing memoryboy or the new tribe status of "moderated," you are free to PM me or post them on this thread.

Pick the first DM song you related to early in your life.

Why did you end up being drawn to those specific DM lyrics?

How did the song make you feel and what did they mean to you?

How do you think they formed you?
